Divers Alert Network
DAN is a non-profit medical and research organization focusing
on the health and safety of recreational scuba divers and
offers an international network for the treatment of diving
accidents. Low cost insurance policies cover accidents all
over the world.
DAN’s initials stand for ‘Divers
Alert Network’, or as its typically known in some countries
‘divers’ network’. DAN was founded in 1980
by some scientists and university professors of high international
prestige, in the U.S, Italy and Spain, who became aware that
diving emergencies require special knowledge that is not always
available in the usual medical emergency service facilities.
DAN Objectives
Administrating and maintaining an international network of
emergency centers, on call 24 hours a day, guaranteeing specialized
assistance to any diver needing it anywhere in the world.
DAN also provides medical
advice, carries out research on accident prevention, organizes
courses and seminars to increase recreational diver formation
and responsibility and finances and backs Hyperbaric Medical
Centers in developing countries.
